Test Advice

Whether you've studied for days, weeks or months before your SAT Saturday, you'll find the following tips helpful. Trust us; we're the experts.

The Day Before The Test

  • Don't do any work the day before the test. If you've studied at least an hour a day Monday through Thursday, you don't need any last minute cramming. However, if a little extra prep will calm your nerves, focus on something simple that you are good at to build your confidence. Our suggestion? Vocabulary. It's quick and easy and makes a difference.
  • Go to sleep early! Don't throw away months of work for a few hours on a Friday night. Go in rested and ready to rock and roll and party like a rock star on Saturday night. Don't get us wrong, we don't want you to eat at the Early Bird Special and to be in bed before your little brother's 7:30 bedtime. However, try to make it to dreamland before midnight.
  • Prepare things you will bring in the morning:
    1. A snack and water
    2. Several pencils
    3. Identification
  • Check the batteries in your calculator. Check the batteries in your calculator. Even though you can do all the math on the test sans calculator, we don't advise it. Make sure your calculator is running at top shape and consider bringing extra batteries just to be safe.

The Test Day

  • Eat breakfast. A healthy breakfast will give you the energy to stay focused and concentrate during the test.
  • Relax on the way to the test site - breathing deeply, feeling relaxed.
  • Don't stress or get caught up in anyone else's stress. You've prepared for this thing, and you should feel confident and ready to roll.
  • Start out calm and focused. When the test begins, take a deep breath and pause to recenter and focus yourself before you dive in.
  • Relax whenever you are asked to turn to a page or put down your pencil. Don't think about the previous section or worry about what is to come. Deep breath and keep going.
  • Grid in one page at a time.
  • Keep your focus. Stay centered, and you will do your best.
  • Rock out Saturday night. What's done is done and stressing won't change it. Besides, you can always take it again!
