Jed grew up in Atlanta and graduated Valedictorian of Pace Academy's 1994 class. In 1998 he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania's Huntsman Program for International Studies and Business with a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School and a B.A. in International studies from the College of Arts and Sciences. After spending a year of community service in the AmeriCorps program, teaching 5th graders in Taos, New Mexico, Jed returned to Atlanta to work as an analyst for McKinsey and Company. In 2001 he took on his first SAT client.

Since 2001, Jed Appelrouth has helped hundreds of students and families navigate the testing, collegiate and graduate admissions process. With an intimate knowledge of the test and the testing process, Jed scored a 2370 on the new SAT and has traveled as far as Provence, France to teach groups of SAT students.

Jed returned to school in 2003 to pursue a Masters Degree in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University. During 2005-2006, Jed interned at Emory University's Career Counseling Center, dedicating 700 hours to help prepare undergrads and recent grads for their lives beyond the world of academia. In 2007 Jed was awarded a Master's Degree in Science in Professional Counseling and became a Nationally Certified Counselor. Jed is currently enrolled in the PhD program in Educational Psychology at Georgia State University. Through his studies and research, Jed hopes to gain further insight into the educational process and learn how to better serve ATS' students and families.

Jed has been invited to speak to parent and student groups at various schools throughout Atlanta. He has spoken to groups at Pace Academy, Woodward Academy, Dekalb School of the Arts, Yeshiva Atlanta and Grady High school. In these forums Jed has covered a variety of topics ranging from test prep to intergenerational differences, to self-esteem and career development. At Emory University Jed gave a series of lectures on entrepreneurship.

Beyond education, Jed is passionate about fine arts and exhibits his artwork in Atlanta galleries. A colorist by nature, Jed is drawn to pastels and oil paints and travels in the US and around the world to find inspiration from the landscape.
