Jed Appelrouth is a 4th year Doctoral student in Educational Psychology and a Nationally Certified Counselor. He is passionate about education, student motivation and achievement. Jed continually seeks new ways to improve the methods and materials of ATS, researching the most innovative pedagogical strategies to keep his tutors on the cutting edge of the education industry. Jed has been studying the testing and admissions landscape for years and seeks to help demystify this world for others. With an intimate knowledge of standardized testing, Jed scored a perfect 2400 on the SAT and has traveled as far as Provence, France to teach groups of SAT and ACT students.
Jed is a frequent lecturer in Atlanta, New York and Washington DC. He has been invited on multiple occasions to speak at Stuyvesant HS in New York City. In Atlanta, he has addressed groups of parents and students at Pace Academy, the Lovett School, Woodward Academy, Blessed Trinity, Lakeside HS, John's Creek HS, Greater Atlanta Christian School, Atlanta International School, Atlanta Girls School, Dekalb School of the Arts, Yeshiva Atlanta, Grady High School and others. He has also been a guest lecturer at Georgia State University and Emory University. In June 2010, Jed was honored with the chance to present at the annual ACCIS conference, where he shared his insights with many of the top college counselors in the country.
Jed graduated Valedictorian of Pace Academy's 1994 class and graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania's Huntsman Program for International Studies and Business. In 1998 he received a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School and a B.A. in International studies from Penn's College of Arts and Sciences. After spending a year of community service in the AmeriCorps program, teaching 5th graders in Taos, New Mexico, and doing trail work for the US Forest Service, Jed returned to Atlanta to work as an analyst for McKinsey and Company. In 2001 he took on his first SAT student.
Jed returned to school in 2003 to pursue a Masters Degree in Professional Counseling from Georgia State University. During 2005-2006, Jed interned for the year at Emory University's Career Counseling Center helping undergraduates prepare for their lives after college. In 2007 he began his doctoral studies at Georgia State.
Beyond education, Jed is passionate about the visual and performing arts. He's made the transition from a capella singing to West African drumming, and he remains an avid photographer and painter. Some of his artwork is available online at www.jedappelrouth.com.
