Our Tutors
We recognize that a student's success is often based largely on the success of the student/tutor relationship; we make every effort to match students with tutors we believe will suit their individual needs.
We initially look at academic needs. Where is the student most in need of help and which tutor has achieved mastery in this area? We also take into consideration inter-personal styles. Some students need an out-going, highly energized and extroverted tutor; some students prefer to work in a lower-key environment with a laid-back, albeit highly competent tutor. We try to create the perfect match to meet the student's needs. A good match will result in a positive alliance that will greatly enhance the quality of the experience as well as the final outcomes and test results.

Orlando, Florida (Military Brat)
Through some unexpected life changes, Annie made the move up to DC last year and is working with Appelrouth full time! When she isn't visiting tourist attractions or tutoring students, Annie loves to get to know individuals of all ages, play ridiculous amounts of sudoku, and generally appreciate life. In the future, Annie plans to continue learning about Counseling and Educational Psychology - perhaps in the form of a PhD.
Instead of focusing on the road-block test ahead of you, focus on where you are going. The SAT is just one small step towards the life that you are working to create!
Arthur
Georgia Institute of Technology
Junior
Physics
Arthur began teaching during his freshman year at Georgia Tech when he became a T.A. for Physics I and II. He loves to help people learn and understand new concepts. After becoming a T.A., he changed his major from Mechanical Engineering to Physics and later added Management as a second major. He is a member of the inaugural class of the Georgia Tech Honors Program and enjoys spending spare time with friends, especially in the outdoors. Backpacking, boating, and SCUBA diving are some of his favorite activities.
Be mentally prepared. While practicing the math and memorizing the vocabulary are critical, beating the SAT requires more than just knowing the material. Get plenty of sleep the night before the test and eat a good breakfast the following morning. Do whatever it is you do to get in the zone and, most importantly, don't let the test intimidate you.
Brett
Georgia Institute of Technology
Junior
Biomedical Engineering
Peachtree City, GA
Brett is a Junior Biomedical Engineering Student at Georgia Tech. After he graduates, he plans to attend medical school to study pediatrics. Currently, however, Brett is tutoring for Appelrouth as well as working in a materials analysis and characterization laboratory for the Georgia Tech Research Institute. Once a week, he volunteers for three hours in the neurology department of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta - Egleston Branch. Some of Brett's favorite activities include tennis, basketball, and just hanging out listening to good music.
Look for throwaways! It is often easier to find the four answers that are wrong than the one that is right.

Don't study the day before the test, with the possible exception of glancing over some vocab. Instead, use the night before to relax and get plenty of rest.
Bronwyn
Georgia State University
Graduate, BA
Psychology
Cape Town, South Africa
Bronwyn graduated from Georgia State University with a B.A. in psychology. She plans on going to graduate school in the not too distant future. When she’s not reveling in the strange feeling of not being in school for the first time in years, Bronwyn enjoys going to dance classes, riding her motorcycle, and watching BBC America with a cup of hot tea. Her plans for the future involve obtaining a doctorate degree and learning how to make the perfect cucumber sandwich.
Remember to pack an extra pencil (or three). You don't want to get halfway through the test and realize that your pencil has broken and you don't have a replacement or a sharpener.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Go Steelers!)
Carlyn graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Computer Science in 1985. For about 18 years, she worked for companies such as NCR, Deloitte & Touche Consulting, and Home Depot, developing software and managing projects primarily for retail clients. Her daughter came along in 2001, her son in 2003, and a math tutoring career was born as well. Carlyn loves helping students gain big increases in grades and test scores and even bigger increases in confidence.
Practice makes progress. You can conceptually understand how to do something and can memorize strategies, but confidence and mastery will come from consistent practice.
Christopher
University of Virginia
Biology
Graduate, BS
Christopher recently graduated from the University of Virginia with a B.S. in Biology and has returned to his hometown of Atlanta. While studying for his degree, Chris completed numerous courses in all fields of science and pursued his other interests in history and language. During his final year at UVA, he had a change of heart and decided to pursue a career in environmental public health. He will soon begin studying for a Master's in Public Health with the hope of engaging in policy work on important environmental issues. Christopher spends most of his free time with his nose in the books, but he also loves exercising in the gym and on the field. Chris focuses on ways to help students overcome the dread of test days and to see each challenge as a chance to demonstrate their skills and knowledge.
This test is no different than any of the other challenges you have overcome in your life. With the right amount of practice and dedication, you will be able to succeed.
Colin
Emory University
Sophomore
Economics
Finance
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Colin is a sophomore at Emory University who made the life-threatening choice of double majoring in Economics and Finance, a tough workload made easier by AP credits (take as many AP classes as you can!). He has never tutored for a company before Appelrouth, but he privately tutored his friends and classmates in high school for several years, both for school subjects and standardized tests. He lives in his fraternity house (Beta Theta Pi), where he enjoys a brotherhood that he believes has positively changed his life in numerous ways. He loves going to the gym with friends, for time spent there offers a mental break as well as a physical workout. When his work is done for the day, he relaxes by listening to classic rock, reading the latest stories on espn.com, playing video games, and hanging out with his brothers. He is passionate about sports (especially baseball) and economics and loves to talk about both.
Don't stress! Freaking out before a test is the only sure way to perform below your capabilities. Be confident; hesitation and trepidation are luxuries you can't afford on timed tests.

Leaving grad school right as the Great Recession hit was not the best career move Geof ever made. As yet unsuccessful in his attempts to compete with ex-military specialists and foreign language experts when it comes to securing quality national security jobs, Geof has decided to shift gears and pursue his passions for helping others and strategically dismantling standardized tests. As the old saying goes, if you can't do - teach. Leveraging his two years of experience spent in the trenches as a teaching assistant at a major university, Geof now endeavors to be his best at helping high school students conquer the SAT.
The SAT is a predictable series of puzzles that can be defeated in a predictable manner. The SAT is a mystery only to those who have not prepared for it.
Hali

Brentwood, TN
Originally from an area just south of Nashville, Hali is a Junior at Emory University. She will graduate after only two and a half years, with a B.A. in both Political Science and Psychology. She plans to attend Law School in 2011.
Hali has been interested in Test Prep since High School. She began to become serious about extensive test prep as a High School sophomore. Ever since, Hali has taken many college admission tests.
Hali has always had a passion for education; as a result, she dedicates much of her free time to her studies. She is caring, optimistic, and very interesting in helping students achieve their goals.
I know the SAT/ACT can be scary! I've had to take them many times. However, with the proper preparation and set of skills, everyone has the potential to do well on the SAT/ACT. It's all about learning to play the game. The most important part of test prep is knowing what to expect, which is why I'm here to help.

Weston, FL
Heather graduated early from high school and began her studies at Georgia Tech at the age of 16. She always had a love for math and began tutoring while in middle school, although she didn't fully realize her love for teaching until she became involved with the Georgia Tech Challenge Program as a Calculus Teaching Assistant. She is enthusiastic, optimistic, and known to smile even when others don't.
Heather will be graduating from Georgia Tech in May 2010 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Management. She plans to begin her career as a Field Engineer with Schlumberger. Heather resides in Atlanta with her husband and bull terrier.

Ian has been interested in standardized test preparation since high school. He enjoys finding ways around doing the SAT the 'hard way'; there are just so many tricks to learn. In his spare time Ian enjoys making music with his Korg keyboard, raising his fish, and wishing he lived in the 80s. He is a member of the inaugural class of the Georgia Tech Honors Program and hopes to help students do most excellently on the SAT.
Take plenty of practice tests. Not only will it teach you new things about the test, but it will also make you much more comfortable when you sit down to take the real thing.
Jacqueline

Graduated Summer 2008
Roswell, GA
After proving for the second time that Georgia Tech does in fact retain female students, Jacqueline tested her scientific diplomas in various unconventional fields such as tax accounting and marketing before finally settling back into a virology research career at Emory University’s Center for Neurodegenerative Disease. She currently spends her mornings playing scientist in the lab, her afternoons coaching young minds through Appelrouth, and her evenings reminding her pup she loves him via toys and trips to the park. Jacqueline hopes to further diversify her life by returning to school again next fall to become a lawyer.
Start test preparation EARLY, then put it away for a day before the test. Use this time to relax and do something you enjoy. Mental fatigue is your enemy!

Jenna grew up in New York and always dreamed of traveling the world and learning as many languages as possible. Now she is living that dream. While earning her BA and MA in cultural anthropology, Jenna lived, worked, and studied on three different continents and learned such crucial life skills as how to haggle in Arabic, complain in Italian, and understand jokes in Dutch. Jenna’s future plans include a PhD, a career in academia, and many more adventures. In the meantime, she enjoys helping high school students with the first step toward fulfilling their goals: getting into college!
Getting into the college of your dreams is worth it. Just get the SAT done. You won’t regret the time and effort spent studying when you get that acceptance letter!
Jennifer
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
Master of Arts in Teaching
Science Education
Emory University
Bachelor of Science
Biology
Music
Orlando, FL
Jenn was one of the first tutors to work at Appelrouth Tutoring Services back when she was an undergraduate at Emory University. Since then, she's gone on to get her Masters of Arts in Teaching at UNC Chapel Hill. She and her husband moved back to Atlanta in 2008, and Jenn took a job teaching high school biology at a public school. Now, she works (nearly around the clock!) as a tutor for ATS. In all of her adventures over the last several years, one thing Jenn knows for sure is that she loves to teach! She's been teaching and tutoring in some capacity since she was a junior in high school and loves it because of the new things she learns from every one of her students.
When Jenn's not at work, she enjoys playing with her puppy, spending time with friends and family, playing board games, and eating ice cream!
Chip away at the vocab lists little by little. Learn 5 new words every day instead of 35 new words in one day. Really focus on learning the roots of words because the sooner you master them, the sooner you will see promising results on your verbal score!
Jenny
Georgia Tech
Graduated, BS and MS
Civil Engineering
Roswell, GA
Jenny grew up in the East Cobb area, and after graduating from Pope High School, she spent five great years studying Civil Engineering at Georgia Tech. During her time as a student, Jenny participated in Tech’s study abroad program and got to go scuba diving in Australia, sky diving in New Zealand, and skiing in Japan (all while taking some classes too). Outside of her current full time job in the finance industry, Jenny enjoys trying to cook all of Rachel Ray’s recipes and playing on her ALTA tennis team.
Don’t fight the SAT. It’s something that everyone has to go through. Buckle down and study hard for a few weeks, so that you can spend the next four years of your life at the college of your choice.

Agnes Scott College
Post-Bacc Pre-Med Program
Conyers, GA
Jodi recently moved from Texas back home to Georgia, got married to the love of her life, and changed careers all in the past year! Six years teaching special needs students in Texas and in California exposed Jodi to a variety of students with unique challenges and circumstances. Jodi taught a positive behavior support class with students suffering from bipolar disorder, oppositional defiance disorder, Asperger's syndrome, and dyslexia. Many of Jodi's students had a history of chronic mental illness and other medical conditions. After advocating for her students' well-being and education, Jodi felt she could have a more direct impact through medicine. Although she misses the classroom, Jodi is enjoying being a student again!
Use every opportunity in life to better yourself and to appreciate the amazing gifts and abilities that you already have to achieve your goals. Remember, there is no problem you cannot solve.
Joe
Joe has always had a passion for learning, and a curiosity about the world. This passion led him to want to teach, and he has found tutoring to be the best way to satisfy that desire. At Emory, his major has changed a couple times, but he finally settled on studying Linguistics. He hopes to one day go to Japan, either to study abroad or to look for a professional career down the road.
The SAT is not there to kill you, and if you just take the time to learn how it works, the test can actually become an interesting challenge to overcome.

Graduated, MA
Atlanta, Ga
John recently graduated with his Masters in Religious Studies from GSU. He reckons he is only about half-way through his educational career, and is looking into teaching high school for a while before working on his PhD. While at GSU, John taught Critical Thinking (Introduction to Philosophy) for a few years, and fell in love with teaching. Currently, John volunteers as an editor at Vox Teen Communications, a teenage-based newspaper in Atlanta, and spends his free-time collecting records, riding his Vespa, drawing comics and catching up on sleep.
Practice everyday! Spend a few minutes each day reviewing vocab words or practicing a couple of problem types. This keeps the ideas fresh on your mind and helps you not feel overwhelmed later on.
Jon
Oglethorpe University
Bachelors of Science Economics
Graduated in 2007
Bronx H.S. of Science (NYC)
Atlanta, GA
After graduating from one of the nation's most prestigous competitive admission public high schools (Bronx Science in NYC), Jon decided to head south five years ago to attend Oglethorpe University. If he could change one thing academically, he would have preferred to get one or two more questions right on his Math SAT in high school. This would have scored him an 800 instead of a 770. The warmer weather, impressive golf courses, and Atlanta community made staying in Atlanta an easy choice after graduating.
While at Oglethorpe, Jon welcomed the challenge of balancing a liberal arts education with a demanding golf schedule. Fortunately, he received college credit for numerous AP classes he took in high school: AP Statistics, AP Calculus BC, AP Physics, AP U.S. History, AP World History, AP Latin Vergil, AP Latin Ovid and Catullus, AP U.S. Government and Politics. Jon has fond memories of college and believes many of his experiences at Oglethorpe helped prepare him to succeed professionally.
When Jon is not tutoring, he works for a national commercial real estate brokerage firm where his schedule is flexible. Beyond the office, Jon enjoys watching movies, reading, traveling, and going to church.
The SAT is a test written by ordinary people; the answer to each question is there along with four wrong answers; if you work hard to learn our techniques, it's really that simple.
Jonathan
University of Georgia
International Businesss, Economics
French
Roswell, GA
After growing up in Roswell, Jonathan attended the University of Georgia and earned two degrees in business. The following summer he married his wonderful wife, and they then moved to England where Jonathan studied towards a master's degree in economics at Oxford University. Realizing that the world of scholarly economics was not for him, he and his wife have since moved back to their native Georgia. Jonathan has been tutoring since he was in high school, most often for math, and he loves helping students attain their goals. Outside of tutoring, his interests vary widely. He loves to read, particularly in the realms of medieval literature, biology, physics, linguistics, and history. He also enjoys listening to and analyzing classical music - doesn't everyone love music theory?
Don't stress! It just makes you rush through and be careless. Relax and take the test just how we have discussed in tutoring.
Junjian
Emory University
Senior
Chemistry
Biology
Atlanta, GA
Junjian has been tutoring peers in the fields of chemistry and calculus since the 12th grade. He has been involved in SAT tutoring since 8th grade and has gone through various courses regarding test taking strategies. In his spare time he likes to golf, play billiards, water ski, and (typical of some Asians) get lost in some Karaoke. Junjian has earned A's in every chem class so far, as well as 1st seat in chem 142, 221, and 3rd in chem 222.
Take practice tests. The more the better because test taking is a skill, and as with all skills it can be improved through practice.
Katherine
University of Notre Dame

Winter Springs, FL
While studying at the University of Notre Dame, Katie spent a summer as a retreat counselor for high school students and a full school year as a Resident Assistant in her dorm - two opportunities where she could showcase her love of people and service. Katie has recently become a new resident of the Washington, DC area since her graduation, and she has been able to use her history background by volunteering at the National Archives and the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. In her spare time, Katie loves to sing, cook, and read. Katie and her husband are currently expecting their first child.
Work as hard as you can now so that when it comes time for your SAT (or any test for that matter) you'll be cool, calm, and totally confident that you've got it in the bag.
Kevin
Georgia State
Alum
Political Science, Spanish
Atlanta, GA
A blog short of being a blogger, Kevin is a young man with big dreams. Although he has a love for many subjects, he chose (or threw the dice) to major in Political Science and Spanish at Georgia State University. His interests in language and politics also spread to his curiosity about the peoples, cultures and foods of the world.
He loves both teaching and learning, and plans to live and teach abroad before continuing his education in graduate school. Some of his activities of choice include trying new foods, writing bios, soccer, dancing, reading, playing frisbee, the classic "spending time with friends and family," and his new love, surfing.
The SAT is not short for Saturday. In fact, the SAT isn't short at all, but it is just a test.
Find your balance and be positive, and the whole world is yours.
Kristina
Georgia Institute of Technology
Sophomore
Industrial Engineering
Columbia, Missouri
Kristina just finished her first year at Georgia Tech studying industrial engineering. Most of her time outside of class is spent competing on the mock trial team or trying to motivate herself to get on her bike (back home she competed across the state in mountain bike races). She has recently begun a co-op at Coca-Cola Enterprises on the price strategy team, and in the fall she will also work as a teaching assistant for calculus at Tech.
Take a deep breath and relax. If you don't get distracted by nerves, all of your studying will pay off.
Laura D
Duke University
Graduated
Atlanta, GA
Laura graduated summa cum laude from Duke in May 2008, but she is still in denial of her alumna status because she loved it so much. Jed prepared her for the SAT back in her Pace Academy days, and now she is back as a tutor (again - she also tutored during the summer of 2006). At Duke, Laura stayed busy as an Undergraduate Writing Tutor, an Art History TA, a student docent at the Nasher Museum, an officer in Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and the president of Order of Omega, the Greek honor society. This year, she is also working on exhibitions and research at the High Museum of Art and conducting alumni interviews for Duke applicants. Laura plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Art History and a career in the museum field.
Read the question. Don't second guess yourself. Love college.

Suwanee, Georgia
Lauren is currently in her final semester as a Science, Technology, and Culture major at Georgia Tech. When she is not tutoring or completing graduate school applications, Lauren is either running, playing tennis, reading, or looking up new Atlanta restaurants. One of her surefire stress-relievers is baking, and her favorite dessert is a rich Paula Deen brownie recipe. Who knows, maybe she'll share some with you! After graduating from Tech, Lauren plans to attend KSU to earn her MAT degree in Secondary Mathematics. Her ultimate goal is to live and teach abroad, possibly through the Peace Corps. Whatever the future holds, her desire is to be constantly learning and living a balanced life. Choose joy!
Trust yourself! First instincts and self-confidence can be very valuable when taking exams.

After college at Northwestern University, Lilian moved to Atlanta in 2005, where she first discovered her love for tutoring, teaching, and generally working with people. She is currently working on her master of arts in teaching at Georgia State University. After graduation, she hopes to find a job teaching students and helping them to live productive and fulfilling lives.
When Lilian is working with students on the SAT, she sees it as just one small step in helping them achieve their big picture goals.
In her free time, Lilian likes to play tennis, minister to the Clarkston refugee community, and spend time with beloved family and friends.
Set up your own personal study schedule, create personalized sentences to remember vocab, and take as many practice tests as you possibly can!

After many years tutoring the SAT for our competition between stints as an optometrist's assistant, customer service representative, magazine copy editor and newspaper reporter, Linda decided to escape the corporate cubicle world. She now works full time for Appelrouth, tutoring students, training new tutors and creating new study materials. When Linda isn't tutoring -- or watering the office plants -- she is most likely reading, or writing, or thinking.
Don't study the night before the test; don't worry the night after. You knew what you knew, and you will learn many more things in a lifetime than will fit onto that answer page.
Madiha
Emory University
Neuroscience & Behavioral Biology
Spanish
Graduate, BS
Cupertino, CA
Madiha graduated from Emory University with a degree in Neuroscience in May 2009. She will be attending medical school in the fall. Madiha has been teaching or tutoring in some capacity since high school, often in Spanish language/literature or natural sciences. Right now, she's working as a lab technician which sounds fancy, but really involves getting paid to make solutions and wash lab glassware all day. When she's not going crazy at work or tutoring, she loves to spend time with friends and family, explore new towns and cook!
Remember to breathe! This can be one of the most stressful times in your life, but if you don't give yourself a break from time to time, you will learn a lot less effectively!!
Mir
Georgia Institute of Technology
3rd Year Undergraduate
Industrial and Systems Engineering
Atlanta, GA
Mir is currently studying Industrial Engineering at Georgia Tech. Having completed all core classes, he is really beginning to enjoy Optimization, Stochastics and Process Simulation classes. He plans on pursuing a Master of Business Administration after his years as an undergrad at Tech so that he can someday be a Technical Director in a corporation. Mir has been tutoring for the SAT for years and was also a 10th grade physics instructor at a private British high school.
He is actively involved in the Bangladeshi Student Association at Tech and W.R.E.K Radio, and, in his free time, Mir enjoys spending time with his wife and his two cats, Porkchop and Poundcake. He enjoys figuring out how things work; his life is a real life discovery channel show. If there is anything to know about anything, Mir wants to know it. Recently, he worked as an Industrial Engineering Co-op at Delta Airlines, which helped fuel his passion for traveling. He also enjoys photography and exploring Atlanta.
Make it your goal to enter the exam hall with confidence. Here's how to do it in three words: Practice, practice, practice!
Patrick M
Georgia Institute of Technology
Sophomore
Biomedical Engineering
Alpharetta, GA
Patrick is currently studying as a Biomedical Engineer with a minor in Spanish and plans on attending medical school after graduating. When he's not trying to get done with a somewhat insane amount of schoolwork, you might find him playing water polo, reading a good book, or just throwing a football or Frisbee with friends. He loves exploring other countries (especially Spanish-speaking ones), going to as many concerts as possible, and scuba diving wherever and whenever the opportunity arises.
As hard as it is, try not to worry. The only time that stressing about any test is ok is when you haven't studied and know you need to. When you go to take the SAT, realize that you've prepared as well as you can and leave it at that. Worry won't make you a better test taker, but it might distract you, cause self doubt, or keep you up way too late the night before. Instead, relax, do your best, and don't let yourself over think the entire process.
Randy
Georgia Institute of Technology
Graduated
Management with Certificate in Operations
Columbus, GA
Randy spent his first year of college as a Mathematics/Economics major at Furman University. He has since transferred to and graduated from Georgia Tech in Atlanta, where he and his high school sweetheart live, happily married. When Randy isn't cracking the SAT, you might find him playing his guitar and singing or enjoying the outdoors while backpacking, hunting, or fishing. Randy's future plans include postgraduate work at a seminary and in education.
Think long-term. The weeks you spend preparing for this test will help determine where you spend at least four years of your life. So put in the time now!
Rebecca
University of Pennsylvania
Graduated
German Studies
Theater Arts
Atlanta
Rebecca grew up in Atlanta and couldn't wait to get out - until actually leaving made her realize there really is no place like home.
She spent her junior year studying abroad in Munich, Germany and fell in love with the city. After graduating from Penn in 2006, she moved back to Munich, got a job at a small PR firm and spent two more amazing years living and working in Germany. Atlanta's charms finally called her home in December 2008.
Rebecca loves foreign languages and cultures and can speak (with dramatically varying degrees of success) German, Japanese, French, Turkish and English. Spanish is next on the list!
She is considering a career as an ESL teacher, but until then she's enjoying living in Atlanta, tutoring, reading new books, seeing old friends and family, wearing flip-flops year-round and doing crossword puzzles in English for a change.
Believe in yourself! Read a lot, think a lot, and always keep an open mind - you'll be glad you did.

Savanna
New York University
History
Lawrenceville, GA
Savanna attended New York University, where she majored in History and took concentrations in Journalism and Studio Art. Her time living in NYC taught her so much, and she thanks her SAT scores for getting her there. Savanna spent over two years interning and working for Barron's Magazine, and although she enjoys math, will still be quite happy if she never has to research another mutual fund again. In her spare time, Savanna is building her own photography business and pursuing her passion for painting. She loves teaching her students how to overcome the hurdles facing them, and is so proud when she sees them succeed.

Take as many mock tests as possible and relax on the day of the test. The more you practice, the better you'll do. Just remember: practice, focus and don't stress. You can do this!
Stephen
Emory University
Third-Year Student (Junior)
Math/Computer Science
Charleston, SC
Stephen likes to keep his fingers in many pies: He's preparing for medical school, yet majoring in Math/CS out of interest (or perhaps to avoid writing papers!); he sings in Emory's University Chorus, and is currently learning to play mandolin; and he teaches SI (Supplemental Instruction) sessions for physics classes at Emory. A diehard fan of classic and alternative rock, bluegrass, and classical music, Stephen is an enormous animal lover, having left behind two dogs and a pony in coming to Atlanta. He enjoys the ill-appreciated art of teaching, and although he doesn't yet plan to pursue it as a career, he finds pleasure in it and plans to continue teaching as long as time allows.
Stay away from refined sugar... Real food will treat your brain best.
Hope for the best, and prepare for the worst!
Tamara
Emory University
Philosophy
Port Washington, NY
Tamara is loving the college experience even though (possibly because?) she is so far away from home. She enjoys trying many different things, especially foods and college majors. When she is not at school or practicing viola for the Emory Symphony Orchestra, she likes to read a broad spectrum of literature, from comics to Camus. Tamara quite enjoys blinding her boyfriend with science! She is currently thinking about a career in Public Health or Law, or some combination of the two.
Go with your gut!
Tiffany
Emory University
Atlanta, GA
Tiffany is currently a junior majoring in finance and political science at Emory University. Her major interests are international development, emerging markets, and corporate finance. She has had experience tutoring the SAT at underprivileged high schools in Atlanta, basic math and reading at a prison transitional facility, and financial literacy at a school for international refugees. Always seeking new learning experiences, she spent a summer interning at a microfinance advisory firm in Cape Town, South Africa, and a semester studying abroad at the University College London. She spends a lot of her time writing articles for Emory's student newspaper, where she has also served as the news editor. After graduation, Tiffany hopes to move to the Big Apple to pursue a career in finance.
Understand the SAT inside and out. You don't need to know everything in the world to do well, but you need to understand what the test is looking for and how it will ask questions. If you reinforce what you know with practice and approach the test with confidence, you can excel.
Victoria
Emory University
Biology
Global Health
Tampa, FL
Apart from delightful conversational skills and a coquettish flair, Victoria has years of experience with teaching and tutoring, ranging from helping elementary school students learn science to teaching CPR and First Aid at the American Red Cross for the past six years.
Her extracurricular interests are typically euphonious- they include musical theater, a DJing gig at Emory's student-run radio station WMRE, and playing various instruments in various imaginary bands around campus. She also enjoys both knitting and adventure, sometimes together. Her heroes include Bill Nye the Science Guy and Batman, and her favorite animal is the Giant Squid.
Don't permit the SAT its shenanigans. It may be wily, but for anything the test might throw at you, there is always a solution. You just have to find it!
Zhijia
Emory University
Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology
Economics
Tucker, GA
Zhijia is majoring in Neuroscience and Economics at Emory University, and plans to attend medical school once he graduates. Other than going to classes, he is working as a laboratory assistant for the Neurosurgery Department at Winship Cancer Institute; he is also conducting research on the side.
Zhijia has had experience tutoring privately since high school, and also tutored for national organizations such as Mu Alpha Theta and Beta. He enjoys tutoring not only because he likes to help others, but because he realizes he too can learn a lot from his students, who are full of potential.
When, or rather if, he has free time, Zhijia likes to play piano and saxophone; he considers music to be his greatest talent.
Do not disregard the value of hard work, since intelligence is not the sole determinant of success. It is much better to be a good student who fulfills his potential, than a great one who squanders it.
